White Fillings

Natural-looking ways to repair your teeth

As we age, it’s not uncommon for our teeth to show signs of wear and tear. You may notice increased sensitivity to hot and cold, a persistent toothache, or even a dark spot on a tooth. These can be tell-tale signs of a cavity that needs attention.

Addressing a cavity with a filling is a simple and effective way to relieve discomfort, prevent further damage, and extend the life of your tooth for years to come.

A Brighter, More Natural-Looking Solution

Many of us may have tooth fillings from years ago. While traditional silver (amalgam) fillings are durable, modern dentistry offers more aesthetically pleasing options: white fillings and porcelain onlays.

White fillings (also called composite fillings) are designed to blend seamlessly with your natural teeth. They’re a popular choice for repairing small areas of damage or decay while keeping your smile looking natural.

White filling material is a high-quality composite resin that mimics the colour and texture of natural teeth. It requires minimal removal of healthy tooth tissue, making it a conservative treatment option.

White fillings are ideal for:

  • Repairing small cavities or chips.
  • Blending with your existing teeth for a discreet result.
  • Making small adjustments to the shape of teeth.

Things to consider

While white fillings look very natural, they don’t always match the long-term durability of porcelain. Over time, they may be more prone to chipping or staining, especially if used to replace larger portions of a tooth.

Other options

Sometimes, a stronger or longer-lasting solution may be more suitable:

Porcelain crowns and onlays: Crafted outside the mouth for precise fit, colour, and shape. Porcelain offers the most natural look, is highly resistant to staining and chips, and is likely to last longer than composite. However, it is a higher investment and often requires more removal of underlying tooth tissue.

We’ll always discuss the options with you, helping you choose the treatment that best balances appearance, durability, and cost for your needs.
